Carbon wheels are absurdly hard to compare

Every maker publishes a different subset of numbers, in a different order, using different assumptions. One quotes weight without tape, another with. One gives internal width, another only external. Reviews compare two wheelsets at a time and rarely the two you are choosing between.

This site does the boring part: one drawing convention, one set of units, every wheelset side by side and to scale. Then it gets out of the way.

How the data is sourced

Specifications come from makers' own published figures, and every entry links to the source page so you can check us. Prices are UK RRP for the pair including VAT — a reference point rather than a live price, because carbon wheels are discounted constantly.

Current state

4 of 47 wheelsets have had every key specification checked against the maker's published data, field by field, each with a source URL and a date. 50 of 658 individual fields across the catalogue now carry evidence (8%). The remainder are provisional seed figures, labelled as such on their own sheets.

A maker's published figure is a fact about what they claim, not about the wheel in the box. Our own measurement programme exists to close that gap — the weighing protocol, instruments, tolerances and setup state are published in full, in advance of the results. Where a wheelset has been measured, its sheet shows claimed and measured side by side. Nothing has been measured yet, and no page pretends otherwise.

Found something wrong? That is genuinely useful — the whole proposition collapses if the numbers cannot be trusted. Corrections are welcome.

What this site will not do

It will not rank wheels by who pays the most, run sponsored “best of” lists, or pad pages with 1,200 words of preamble before the table. It is funded by affiliate commission, disclosed plainly, and that revenue has no influence on ordering.
